Leos Janacek - THE DANUBE
Leoš Janáček
THE DANUBE
SKVLJ H/3Edited by Miloš Štědroň and Leoš Faltus

The critical edition of the Janáček unfinished symphony titled The Danube was compiled by experienced editors Miloš Štědroň and Leoš Faltus. Autograph score and other sources indicate that Janáček’s work on this composition lasted five years with interruptions and was prematurely terminated by his death. The editors have returned to Janáček’s autograph and endeavoured to respect it to the maximum degree. This approach presents the symphony as a work bold in its orchestration. The sketch-like and torso-like qualities of some sections (especially in the fourth movement) required a more active approach than is called for by the editorial principles and guidelines of the Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Leoš Janáček. The bi-lingual critical commentary (Cz./Ger.) describes these changes.
The volume contains a preface by dr. Jarmila Procházková (Cz./Ger./Eng./Fr./Rus.), the complete score (published for the first time ever) and a facsimile of the autograph score in supplement.
